Betini model village
Betini, a village that is known as a model village, is located in the Manakamana VDC situated 1250 meters above the sea level. This village is mostly inhabited by the Magar Tribe, famous around the world as the brave warriors, who share the village along with other minority clans such as the Kamis & Gurungs. There are a total of 135 houses in Betini village with almost 70 of the houses clustered in one spot. The distance to the village from Manakamana is about 2 Kms and takes approximately 20 minutes to reach on foot. Traditionally, the profession of the inhabitants of this village was farming with majority of the males posted in the Indian army. However, the youth of the village have lately opted going abroad of better opportunities and income. Recently, the village also started home stay to attract tourists to the area by constructing a welcome gate with traditional dances performed for the visitors and offering them the taste of the local food.
The name Betini originated with a very interesting story behind it. As per the local elders, the village was thick with Cane known as “Bet” in Nepali. As the population grew the thickness of the Cane (Bet) started diminishing and thus the elders of the villagers named it “Betini”. Cane & Bamboo is known as a form of shelter which is also used to make decorative products as well to make handle for umbrellas, Police sticks, walking sticks, toys & dolls, houses & fences etc.
Betini is an isolated quiet and clean village with a beautiful views and rich culture posing to have huge potential for tourism development with possibility of village tourism and home stays. The village inhabitants welcome the visitors with an open heart and ever smiling faces that matches the beauty of the place.
