Bakreshwor Mahadev
Another popular holy site in Manakamana is the temple of ‘Bakreshwor Mahadev’ which lies only 1.5 km towards the north of the Manakamana temple. It is believed that while the lord Shiva walked carrying the dead body of his beloved wife Sati, her body parts fell on the paths that he took and upon reaching this point in Nepal, the tongue of Sati fell off. It is believed that the formation of ‘Bakreshwor Mahadev’ was established at the very spot, which later was to be more known as ‘Bakreshwor Mahadev’.
Most people who travelled to Manakamana also visited ‘Bakreshwor Mahadev’. Construction works of the temple is in progress at the moment where there lies a long big tablet. One interesting story related to this temple is that it is believed children who do not speak even after reaching the age of 2 to 3 years are brought to pay respects to this temple and popular belief is that children start speaking after paying homage at this temple.
